Line charts are one of the multiple ways to visualize data and are used to represent one or more trends or changes over time and compare mutiple datas.

Line chart is a good idea if you have continuous data and you want to show:

  • Change over time
  • Trends
  • Comparison of the change for several groups
  • Prediction

Do / Don't

Use contrasting colors and include a legend.
Keep accessibility in mind. Don’t use more than 4 lines.
Use texture rather than a color to represent different data types.
Don’t use different colors to show different data but for the same category.
